“In our present moment of heightened consumption, environmental and social degradation, and removal of process in image-making (AI, digital automation, and the frictionless swipe), Morgan’s’ handmade cinema practice intervenes differently. By creating images through direct contact between film and touch, she enacts a sensory and material approach to non-digital film, restoring its relationship to touch, craft, subject, and time. Created across a duration of time, space, and subject, Morgan’s oeuvre is rooted in queer techne, producing knowledge through making, and feeling. The hand of the artist, the physicality of the film process, and the site itself become co-collaboratorsβ€”an act of care for the queer inhabitation and history of Hanlan’s Point, and an approach to the wound of straight time and space.”
